Quick Start
In GRAIN ROT, you play as a Living Spark inhabiting a fragile, flammable wooden vessel. The core loop begins when you take the cursed elevator down into the changing underground ruins, then return with what you can safely bring back.
The Core Game Loop
The confirmed loop is straightforward:
- Descend into the underground ruins through the cursed elevator.
- Explore the Deep Layers and collect resources.
- Break down furniture for materials when you find it.
- Use the Grinder to turn furniture or resources into gold.
- Extract successfully to bring your gains back to the surface.
The game changes as you explore, so this page does not claim a fixed route, best build, or ideal upgrade order.
Exploring the Ruins
The underground ruins change over time, and the Deep Layers contain the Corrupted. Treat each descent as an exploration and extraction run rather than assuming every trip will follow the same layout.
Resources and Gold
Furniture and other resources can be processed through the Grinder for gold. The verified materials do not establish the best resource to collect, conversion values, or a fastest farming route, so use this as the reliable foundation before following more specific advice.
Extraction
Successful extraction is the confirmed way to bring gains back from below. When you are learning, returning safely is more useful than relying on an unverified route or reward claim.
The Outpost
The surface Outpost can be upgraded over time. It is also home to survivor-related systems, but the available materials do not yet support a complete survivor or upgrade guide.
Multiplayer
GRAIN ROT supports both single-player and online co-op. If you want to play with others, see the multiplayer guide for the verified Public Lobby setting and the current player-count boundary.
